This well known poem was written in 1879. In his verse, he writes:

Brdka v prirodni si lepoti,
ko ti prozornih globočin
nevihte temne srd ne moti -
krasna si, hči planin! ...
Tod sekla bridka bodo jekla,
in ti mi boš krvava tekla:
kri naša te pojila bo,
sovražna te kalila bo! ... "
you're beautiful in your natural beauty,
when your clear depths,
are not disturbed by the anger of the dark storm
you're gorgeous, you daughter of the mountains! ...
He was born in Vrsno at Kobarid, and after graduating secondary school, he chose a clerical vocation. He spent the last years of his life in Gorizia and was buried at the edge of the Church of St. Lawrence. His work belongs to the period between romanticism and realism. During that time, he created his best work.
